SUCH A DISAPPOINTMENT
I took a bit of a chance and headed to Thailand for the whole month of November 2019. I arrived in Chalong Bay with all
of my kit and my biggest kite (14m)
I didn't get out, not even once for a single session on my twintip!. I weigh 76kg!!
There is a lot to be aware of with this spot. It looks idyllic from a distance however don't be fooled.
There are 2 schools operating in the area who are separated by 200m of plastic covered beach. I was originally in contact with KBA however after meeting with the manager, I didn't like the vibe so contacted the other school. Kitezone is a much better place to hang out as they have far more facilities at their grounds and a manager who has time for customers and users of the beach.
The spot itself is not for beginners. The tidal differences are huge and at low tide there is not enough water to even get a toe wet. During mid to low tide massive clusters of rocks are revealed so even at high tide these could be extremely hazardous especially for beginners or those wanting to use their foil boards.
As I said previously the wind was non existent for the entire month and even when there was a little breeze this would only ever come in the early morning so timing the wind with the tide would be crucial when planning your kiting time in Phuket.
The only positive that I could say about this spot was that views around it are spectacular and if you arrive and there is no wind for your stay there are plenty of tourist attractions to keep you entertained in the surrounding areas.
My advice would be to head to Mui Ne if you want an Asian winter escape!
